The district takes its name from San Martino church
Church of St. Martin was founded in 1332 by the will of Count Boniface Gherardesca. The large brick building, with sides and apse decorated with pilasters and arches was rebuilt in the seventeenth century. On the main altar are the remains of Santa Bona, a lay saint patron of Pisa flight attendants.

The Lungarno Fibonacci was opened before the Second World War, when it was built the Ponte della Vittoria.
