Pacentro is a medieval village of 1200 inhabitants located in the Abruzzo region, in the province of L'Aquila, in the territory of the Majella National Park at 690 meters above sea level.
Perched on the slopes of Mount Morrone, Pacentro is the ideal place for lovers of trekking through mountain paths that connect the village with Passo San Leonardo.
Pacentro is also an excellent destination for cyclists and motorcyclists thanks to spectacular highway 487 connecting Pacentro with Passo San Leonardo.
Pacentro is known to be the country that gave the origins to the singer Madonna (Veronica Ciccone is his first name) because her grandparents, before emigrating to the United States, lived in Pacentro own.
We recommend visiting the beautiful historic center of Pacentro, the imposing Castle of Caldora (in its original structure dates back to the tenth century), the sixteenth-century Mother Church Santa Maria Maggiore and the Convent of the Friars Minor with square cloister next to the Church of the Holy conception.
In the surroundings of Pacentro you will find many other places to visit: Sulmona, Pettorano sul Gizio, Roccacasale, Pescocostanzo, Roccaraso, Rivisondoli, Scanno, Villalago, Bugnara, Anversa degli Abruzzi, Castrovalva, Cansano, Campo di Giove, Roccacaramanico, Sant'Eufemia a Majella, Caramanico Terme.
