Cisternino is a country of about 12 thousand inhabitants of the province of Brindisi . It is part of the prestigious club of The most beautiful villages of Italy and of Italian Municipalities Jewel . It overlooks the valley Itria , the so-called Murgia Dei Trulli.
Perched on a height of 394 meters, overlooking on one side the Itria Valley, and on the other, a few km from the sea, at the long expanses of olive groves. The historic center of Cisternino, which has been called "a great architectural masterpiece without architects", is rich in sights to discover and alleys in which to walk immersed in the white of its houses. Cisternino is the ideal destination for those looking for relaxation, nature, tradition and excellent gastronomy.
Places to visit:
Old town: example of "spontaneous architecture", where you will find historic buildings (the palace of the Governor, the Bishop's palace, palace Amati, Lagravinese palace, palace Devitofranceschi tower Capece).
Tower of the Great Gate or Norman-Swabian. At the top, on top, there is a small statue of St. Nicholas .
Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas: built in the fourteenth century .
Shrine of Our Lady of Hibernia (Madonna de Bernis): 3 km from the town.
Farms: in the countryside of Cisternino there are several lodgings that represent the typical Pugliese field including Colonial Peppeturro, Montereale Masseria Villa Cenci, Devitofranceschi Colonial, Colonial and Colonial Coast Montanaro.
