This is a charming, tranquil house with great character. It is right on the lake with beautiful views from the room and garden, and very close to the main square. Antonella is a wonderful, thoughtful host who gave us many good recommendations. She even arranged to get our clothes washed locally. We loved her delicious breakfasts in the garden every morning. In this extremely hot weather, the two big fans she provided in the room were very welcome. Thank you for a lovely 10 days!

We can really recommend this accommodation as the room is large, with a balcony and a beautiful view over the lake, situated in an old house with a beautiful garden next to the lakeshore. There is almost no traffic behind the house as traffic is strictly limited; so the location is really quiet. The landlady is very kind, helpful, uncomplicated and cheerful. The only thing we missed was a ladder down to the lake for taking a swim.

The room is in an older building right on the lake. It is a gorgeous, old style Italian Palazzo style room with an amazing view of the lake. It is spotlessly clean. My husband and I were very comfortable here. Antonella is a perfectly wonderful hostess who serves a nice European breakfast. We would definitely book this place again if we ever came back. Location is amazing as well being so close to town.

The owner Antonella is such a nice and helpful person. We loved talking with her. The room is on the second floor, is spacious and furnished in an old style. You sleep in a library full of Italian books. The view from your balcony is breathtaking. The lake is literally at your feet. At night it is very quiet. It is a 5-minute walk to the main square of the village. The underground safe car park is a 15-minute walk through the center.

To be honest I rather not write a review because I like to keep this hidden gem a secret. But Antonella deserves, so here I go! The B&B is located in a superb location, very quiet, private and yet only a few steps from the main square with the restaurants and coffee bars. The view on the lake is fantastic and last but not least Antonella is a very friendly host. Every morning she climbed the stairs to serve us our rich breakfast. Everything was really great, the room, the view and breakfast by the lake shore. It was just unfortunate that the direct lake access from the property (which we had expected) was not operational. My family and I spent the night at this beautiful B&B. The host placed us on the top floor with a breathtaking view of the lake. She helped us find the parking lot and as we walked back, she was kind enough to show us around and share information on the town. The following day, the host provided the simplest yet most delicious breakfast I have ever had. Although we lacked internet access, or if there was, I forgot to ask, but our room had bookcases filled with plenty of books to entertain you as you sit on the balcony with that spectacular landscape. We definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for some peace and quiet.

Il Giardino sul Lago is a magical little gem, right on Lake Orta. The room, in reality, is an entire apartment (minus a kitchen). It is beautifully appointed, with a grapevine-covered wrap-around terrace on two sides and a wonderful library. Between these and Antonella's warm hospitality, the overall experience feels more like staying at a friend's house than in a hotel. What more could one ask for?

Great place! Not so good for old people with difficulties walking as lots of stairs. However, I am 64 and had no issues. Just pack what you need and leave heavy suitcases in the car. Largo d'Orta is heaven on earth, and I will return. This is a great place to stay, and I give it ten out of ten!

Il Giardino sul Lago was our favorite of several Bed and Breakfasts on a recent trip to the Italian lakes: incredibly lovely, beautiful, quiet, and relaxing, perfect for a romantic stay in the small and uncrowded Orta San Giulio. We can't wait to go back. The room is large and lit exceedingly well by two large French doors that face the lake; outside, a large balcony gives you spectacular views of Isola San Giorgio and the sunset. B&B owner Antonella was extremely friendly and accommodating, and speaks excellent English; she took us on a small tour of the building itself, which is large and charming and filled with books. The building is perfectly located just within Orta San Giulio for easy walks to Sacra Monte or the ferry to Isola San Giorgio, as well as into town for dinner; it's also very close to Stresa for a day trip to the Borromean Islands.

For those of you reading this and are unfamiliar with Orta, the town and lake have been one of our very favorite places in Northern Italy. This was our 4th visit to Orta in 35 years of travels to Europe and it did not disappoint. The lake is the smallest and least touristed of the major lakes. The town remains very small, charming, historic and without chain-store commercialism. The harbor setting is reminiscent of Portofino (without the big boats of course) while the Sacro Monte above the town is not to be missed. Our week at Il Giardino was so relaxing that leaving was extremely difficult. The location and the very spacious, scenic and airy room with 2 sets of French doors opening to the balcony and lake, on the 2nd floor, has got to be the best in Orta. While the website photos are excellent and were probably the main reason we booked at Il Giardino, they just don't do justice to being there. So many of the other hotels and B&Bs in Orta seemed very minimalist and contemporary in furnishings as opposed to more traditional furnishings in Il Giardino which for this "mature couple" was a big plus. After more than a month we are still talking about our new friend, Antonella, and her warm and relaxing hospitality, not to mention her excellent English for those of us who wish we could speak Italian but don't. We look forward to a return trip to see her and to once again relax at Il Giardino and Orta San Giulio. Grazie Mille, Antonella!

The location is great: Very quiet, right on the lake shore, just a few steps from the Piazza of Orta. From the balcony of our very large room, we had a breathtaking panoramic view. My friends and I stayed here for a couple of days and it was truly like being at home. Mrs. Antonella welcomed us and treated us with utmost kindness and availability. The setting is simply a gem with the flavor of other times. Right by the beautiful lake and a stone's throw from the center. An excellent location. A grapevine accompanies us to the well-kept room enriched by the wonderful library steeped in history. The balcony, overlooking the lake, was our TV for our entire stay. Silence and peace were lulled only by the sweet sound of the waters. Breakfast is served by the fantastic Mrs. Antonella in the garden below and it was very well-prepared, with fresh and generous products. We breathed courtesy, simplicity, and history and we were sorry to have to part ways. Too late we discovered that Mr. Cesare, the kind owner, is the historical author of many of those books and the interesting archive. We would have gladly listened to some of his stories and exchanged experiences and impressions with him. But the promise is that we will return to visit these wonderful people who are rarely found nowadays. Thank you from the heart.

Given that Orta is a small jewel of a lake, this bed and breakfast fits perfectly into the context for me. The location is excellent and peaceful, the accommodation is undeniably charming and with a nostalgic romanticism that echoes the surrounding landscape. The house is wonderful and lush, there is so much greenery that perhaps it should be better maintained. The view is simply sublime, so with a bit more pruning, this aspect could be further improved. Extremely characteristic, without a television of which you don't feel any lack given the breathtaking view and the precious library that covers practically most of the walls. Lovely garden that allows you to have breakfast on the water and a corner balcony that brings the view inside the house. Very clean. Mrs. Antonella and her husband are helpful and really kind. Having asked for chamomile for breakfast, they brought me a small bowl with chamomile flowers and not the supermarket tea bag. A truly rare attention to detail. Experience to be repeated.

We stayed two nights at this place. The room is more than a room. It's almost a two-room apartment. It has many bookshelves and three reading spots (meaning comfortable seats and light for each spot). The view is stunning. Breakfast is served practically on the lake, the low wall separates the lawn from the lake. The breakfast is healthy and abundant for us. The place is a bit country and from another era. The strawberry grape covers the entire house and reaches up to the room.

If you are looking for a place where you can feel at home, go there and you will not regret it. There is no room for frills and lace, but you will be welcomed by a warm house on the lake, which you have to reach on foot and that will make you experience the city as if you really lived there. There is no parking, but it is definitely worth it. That lakeside breakfast and that little terrace, I will hardly forget them.

Everything worth living for finds its cradle in this place. If beauty will save the world, one must run to Cesare and Antonella's, in their house overlooking the lake, a perfect frame of a painting with multiple shades. From the colorful garden, a few steps take you to the square, where the island of San Giulio surprises you and takes your breath away, an atmosphere of other times in the evening. The two of us and our 5-year-old little one, two days of serenity immersed in this masterpiece of humanity and nature!

Experience, frankly, unforgettable. Not only for the natural beauty of the place, but also for the splendid room where we stayed and the kindness of the people who welcomed us. Opening the window of the room, the view of Lake Orta opens up immense in front of the eyes, as the building is positioned a few meters from the lake; the panorama is simply breathtaking. The people who welcomed us were very kind, helpful, and friendly. The breakfast served to us, always in front of the lake, was very abundant and with all fresh products. Perfect stay, I recommend without hesitation to everyone.

I chose this place to spend our usual weekend with my husband and we had a great time. Lovely place with a splendid view. The photos on the website give an idea but the reality is even more spectacular. What I remember with pleasure is the added value of a very vast and well-kept library available, as well as an intrinsic elegance lived but at the same time discreet. I would go back even immediately.

Very pleasant stay, thanks to the splendid location enjoyed by Il Giardino sul Lago and the kindness and availability of the owners. Mrs. Antonella gave us excellent advice. Spacious, fresh, bright, clean room embellished by the uniqueness of the library and the spectacular view from the little balcony. Abundant breakfast with a view of the lake. If you want to unwind and enjoy tranquility and silence, Il Giardino sul Lago is the ideal place. We recommend it.

My wife and I had a great time! The B&B is very nice, full of charm, quiet, and very clean. The location on Lake Orta is spectacular and very close to the center of Orta. The cherry on top was Antonella - a delightful host who made us feel at home, helping us make the most of the area. I highly recommend this B&B to anyone looking for an oasis of peace on one of Italy's most beautiful lakes.

Well what can I say.. it's hard to find places with such a unique view, with such a unique room, with tranquility and peace at practically any time. I recommend it to anyone who wants to take a break from their daily habits, from the chaos of the city, from the frenetic life we lead. Even just two days for oneself are enough to restart, to relax, to find oneself again. We felt good, it's what we were looking for. Beautiful places always stay in the heart. If you have the opportunity, browse through the 60 thousand. 60,000, sixty thousand books of Cesare and Antonella; "lose" a few minutes, a few hours to have a chat. Highly recommended. "The Garden by the Lake", a wonderful dream that you would want to do over and over again! I must say that I will return as soon as possible? That we were welcomed by 2 special people?
