A thousand feet above the vineyards and olive groves below, stands one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Italy - the cathedral city of Orvieto.

The butte on which the city was built is made of an ancient, volcanic rock called tufo. The origins of the city pre-date the Romans, going back to the Etruscans and before.

When you arrive, park your car in the delightful Piazza del Popolo and after checking in with us, discover the charm of this lovely and peaceful place by strolling through its streets and squares.

The B/B of “La Soffitta” and “La Torre” are located in the attic of an ancient palazzo dating back to the XIV century. It is situated on the corner of the Piazza del Popolo, 200 metres from the Duomo the famous Cathedral of Orvieto, and 500 metres from the Pozzo di San Patrizio,. Everything is within easy reach, including many local shops as well as cafés, bars, and excellent local restaurants.

One of Orvieto’s most appealing characteristics is that its artistic wealth is not hidden away inside museums, but displayed in the streets and squares of the town. So, take your time and enjoy the treasures of this exceptionally pretty town.

La “Soffitta” consists of 3 comfortable bedrooms equipped with ceiling fan.

The beamed ceilings, the tiles of the floor, and the antique furniture which has belonged to the family for generations still maintain the ambience of a time gone by. They give an unforgettable atmosphere.

The windows of two rooms look on to the Piazza del Popolo, the other one takes the light from a romantic skylight in the roof.

The adjacent B&B” LaTorre” has been completely restored and it is close by La Soffitta, on the same floor. It has the same beamed ceilings, and the parqueted floor. Everything has been designed to provide our guests with every comfort and convenience.

La Torre comprises a double room with air conditioning and a ‘mini flat’ with air conditioning and cooking corner.The windows open on to the characteristically terracotta tiled roofs of Orvieto and on the beautiful windows of medieval Palazzo del Popolo
Breakfast is served in the drawing-room inside an ancient medieval tower, where the frescoed walls, the ancient tiles on the floor, and a big fireplace contribute to create a cosy and welcoming atmosphere.

This room is always at the disposal of our guest for reading or just relaxing.

We found that the B&B was centrally located which made it very easy to get around all the sites we wanted to see. It would have been helpful to have known that the ticket for the funicular also included the bus to the top. All you have to do is flag the bus. It was a 30 minute walk with suitcases that could have been avoided. While it was nice to know that there was a common room shared by all to have coffee and even purchase our own food to store in the fridge, what was offered in the rooms was a disappointment. All in all, it was a pleasant experience.

The hosts were great and this is an amazing little Umbrian town on a hill. I wish that we had had more time there. There is a vibrancy to this area and the Farmers Market outside on Saturday morning was spectacular.

Very central location, within a few minutes walk you can reach the main points of interest in the city. The lady who welcomed us was very kind and courteous. Even though breakfast was not included in the reservation, we were provided with coffee, tea, pastries, biscuits, and jam. I will gladly return.

The room is ideal for visiting Orvieto as it is located in the heart of the city. It is clean, spacious, equipped with air conditioning and all the 'essential' amenities. The very positive picture is completed by the courtesy of the manager and her mother, who also provide useful practical information on food and wine venues.

Great location, in the center overlooking Piazza del Popolo, long-term parking at the cost of 1.50 euros per day at about 400 meters, bar and restaurant right below the house, great value for money, spacious and clean apartment, very helpful owner.

I stayed, along with some relatives, at the B&B "La Soffitta" for a summer holiday in Orvieto. Truly an excellent experience, from all points of view: in the management of the reservation, with precision and clarity in email communication; in the check-in, with the flexibility that a long journey on Italian roads "imposes"; in the affectionate courtesy and competence and in the elegant discretion of the stay management by Silvana and Beatrice; in the very high quality of the rooms, both (in our case) the triple and the single, well-kept and with all necessary services but without betraying the typical Umbrian style in the construction of the accommodations. The only negative point, having to leave the beautiful Orvieto!

I stayed the night of January 5th for the Epiphany weekend. We had a very good experience both for the central location of the B&B and for the kindness of the hosts. If we return to Orvieto, we will probably choose this bed and breakfast.

The owner, affable and kind, personally welcomed us even though we arrived late. The B&B La Soffitta is located in the historic center of Orvieto and has been tastefully furnished, highlighting the virtues of the ancient palace. Really excellent. After unloading the luggage at the entrance in Piazza del Popolo and not in Via del Popolo, but immediately to the left, it is advisable to park in the underground parking of the city.

Strategic location, excellent welcome from the owner, clean and comfortable structure and away from noise although located in the city center. I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to visit the Umbria-Lazio-Tuscany triangle. I plan to return.
