Colorno is a charming town located at the confluence of Lorno canal and the Parma stream. Its golden age was under the Farnese, Dukes of Parma, who chose it as their summer residence in the late 17th century, after which the town was named “Piccola Versailles” (Small Versailles). Its historic centre of Colorno is dominated by the impressive Palace which has recently been fully restored and is now the seat of ALMA – Irtenational School of Italian Cuisine and of the University of Gastronomy founded by Slow Food. The Palace also hosts art exhibitions. Tourists can walk in the Historic Garden next to the Psalace, which shows its old unique beauty thanks to recent restoration works. They can also visit the Aranciaia (the old greenhouse where the citrus trees of the Historic Garden were housed during the winter), the Cathedral of Santa Margherita, the Church of San Liborio, the Oratory of SS. Annunziata of Vedole and the Oratory of Copermio.
“Meridiana Affittcamere” is located a few hundred metres from the town centre, with its many places of historic and artistic interest, and is ideally situated for excursions to typical natural and environmental areas. Just a few kilometres away you can visit the LIPU Oasis and the basin on the Po river at Sacca, inside the wide high-water bed rich in poplar groves, wetland and self-grown vegetation. The bicycle touring route BiciParmaPo passes immediately near the building.
There are a lot of restaurants and “trattorie” where you can taste the famous salami, first of all Culatello of Zibello and Parma ham, as well as the well-known Parmesan cheese and delicious specialities of Parma cuisine.
