Rocca di Fondi is a charming historic village located just 5 km from Antrodoco, nestled on the slopes of Monte Nuria (1, 880 m). With its distinctive spindle shape, it is an authentic example of rural architecture in central Italy: at the top lie the church of Madonna Assunta and the main square, the vibrant heart of the village. The narrow, steep streets, carved into the rock, offer picturesque views at every turn.
Until the early 20th century, Rocca di Fondi was an independent municipality; it became a hamlet of Antrodoco following the reform introduced by Joseph Napoleon, King of Naples, in 1808.
The village can be reached via a scenic road winding through lush forests of chestnut, beech, oak, and coppice, where Turkey oak, manna ash, and hazel also grow. The undergrowth is rich in mushrooms, and in sunny clearings, sweet wild strawberries can be found. Continuing along the path, the Piscignola plateau opens up, enhancing the natural beauty and serenity of this unspoiled corner.
